HoustonFest 2012 is scheduled for May 4&5, 2012 at Felts Park in Galax, Virginia. Bands including Blue Highway, Sierra Hull & Highway 101, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and the VW Boys will be performing. Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder will Headline at HoustonFest 2012. Ongoing Bluegrass and Old-Time music will grace the 3 stages. Showcases will be hosted by Mr. Jon Lohman and Camp Houston will be in full swing. Regional luthiers will demonstrate their craft.
A very special feature of HoustonFest 2012 will be a live auction featuring handmade instruments. Bidders will have the opportunity to buy a Wayne Henderson Guitar, Jimmy Edmonds Fiddle, Anderson – Strickland Mandolin, and a Steve Huber Heritage Banjo. The auction will be conducted by Mr. Ken Farmer who is a noted auctioneer and appears on PBS Antique Roadshow. There will also be a silent auction featuring many items that spectators and participants will want to bid on.

Pack your lawn chair, your dancing shoes, and sunglasses and head up to Chateau Morrisette for a fun filled afternoon of music, dancing and award winning wines at the Black Dog Wine & Rock Festival Weekend.

All your favorite artists, craftspeople and vendors will be on site for shopping and plenty of great food. The stage heats up at 11:30 am with two consecutive bands keeping you dancing until 5 pm. Please note: Picnics, coolers or outside food & beverages are not allowed. Tickets: Advance $20, Gate $25, Designated Driver $20. Blue Ridge HOST will be hosting an Apple Pickin’ Festival with Crafters, Vendors, and Music at their new Visitor’s Center in Fancy Gap Virginia. Apples will be available on site or you can choose to pick your own at nearby orchard.

Music Entertainment will include:

Bluegrass and Gospel. Bo Hacker 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon

Located just south of the Blue Ridge Parkway is a hidden treasure trove of rolling farm land with endless varieties of tree bearing fruit. Fresh peaches and apples are picked at it peak of ripeness for the best possible flavor. Bird Watching in the Blue Ridge

On any given day at the Blue Ridge Manor Bed and Breakfast, you will see a host of birds. The Cardinal, Carolina Chickadee, Doves, White-Breasted Nuthatch, Song Sparrow and Tufted Titmouse and on a rare occasion the Rose-breasted Grosebeak. They dine daily with our eight gray squirrels, two chipmunks and 2 flying squirrels. The whole gang seems pretty content to call our country bed and breakfast home as they don’t mind sharing crumbs with our two dogs, Zeus and Goliath. We are officially listed as a eBird hotspot in Virginia. There are two website that I think you will find very useful for your own birding activities.
